chapter twenty‑seven and a half
The next day Alex was up early and left for work before either Alice or Andrew had even woken. Alice was up next, and, having breakfasted on two pineapple rings with a dollop of custard, she decided to wake Andrew.
"Come on, up and at 'em," she said shaking Andrew roughly by the shoulder.
"Oh please don't," groaned Andrew.
"You're never going to find the cure for cancer lying in bed,"
"I don't care; please leave me alone," begged Andrew.
"Feeling slightly fragile, are we?"
"You'll be feeling worse than fragile if you don't bugger off," growled Andrew with all the aggression his condition would allow - which wasn't much.
"Now now, temper temper. All right, I'll let you rest. I'm going out to find a job; I'll see you later."
Andrew sank gratefully back to sleep.
