Somewhere Else

chapter forty‑two

Andrew awoke feeling drowsy but with an overwhelming sense of elation. He was receiving brief messages of contentment from every part of his body. 'No problems here, Boss' said the big toe of his left foot, 'Feeling great' said his right knee, 'A little sore, but happy to be of service' said his elbows in a combined message, and the muscles in his back summed up the all the reports with; 'Tired but happy'.

Lazily he tried to recall what had happened; he remembered leaving the Designer, but, after that, things got fuzzy.

And then it came back to him, in a warm blissful rush.

He was in bed, and he had dozed off, as was his habit in these circumstances, after making love to Alice!

He rolled over, and there she was, lying propped up on one elbow and looking at him. Andrew was grinning like a lunatic; he couldn't help it. He reached up, put his hand behind her neck and gently drew her head down so that their lips met. As they kissed, Andrew had the strange sensation that champagne bottles were being popped throughout his body. The overflowing bubbly sent tingles all over the place.

Alice broke the kiss and leaned back, smiling enigmatically.

Andrew was still grinning like a Cheshire cat who'd got the cream. He tried to stop, but most of his body was now too drunk to take any notice of him. He felt a fabulous joy marching through his chest like a brass band, streamers flying and crowds cheering.

"Wow," said Andrew dreamily, "that was wonderful."

"Wasn't it?" added his ego nervously.

"Yes, it was," said Alice and kissed him tenderly on the forehead, "but it was just a dream."

"But it was a dream we had together. I mean, you're here too, aren't you?"

"Well, I think so. All I'm saying is that if it ever happens in real life you shouldn't expect it to be so good."

"But why not?"

"Because you've enhanced it. Look at this," she said flicking her shoulder length hair, "I used to have short hair. But being the sexist male you are, you obviously decided that wasn't feminine enough for you."

"Oh, that's unfair, I can't be held responsible for my own subconscious. And besides, you must admit, it looks good like that."

"That's irrelevant, and if you aren't accountable for your subconscious - who is?"

"I don't think you're in any position to complain about changes," said Andrew looking down the length of his body, "I'm sure my dick never used to be this big."

Alice giggled, "oh, so you measure it then, do you?"

"No, of course not. But a girl once told me I had a small one."

"Ooooh, the bitch," said Alice in mock horror, "and how did you respond to this savage attack on your manhood?"

"I apologized. What else could I do?"

Alice laughed and tousled his hair. "Maybe you're not so bad after all."

"I get a few non‑chauvinist points for that one, do I?"

"Yes, I don't think Alex would have taken it so humbly."

"Yeah, but no one would ever say it to Alex," said Andrew jealously. "Talking of Alex, you haven't ... I mean did you ... er ... have you already been through this dream with him?"

"Oh Andrew," said Alice with disappointment, "you've blown all your Brownie points, just when I thought there was hope for you yet. You didn't really think I was some kind of chaste maiden, saving myself for this one night of passion with you?"

"No, no, I was just wondering where Alex fitted in," he smiled and added, "if you'll excuse the expression."

"What difference does it make if I've slept with Alex or not?"

"Well none, I suppose. I was just interested, that's all."

"It's really none of your business, is it?"

"No."

"It's up to me who I sleep with, isn't it?"

"Yes."

"Of course," said Alice, "if we were having a real relationship, then naturally I'd be happy to tell you all about my past."

"But we're not?"

"This is just a dream."

"Ah yes, but if it wasn't, do you think we might ... um ... have a real relationship?" said Andrew tentatively.

"Who knows? Stranger things have happened," said Alice with a mischievous grin.

"Well, in the meantime," said Andrew smiling, "I think we should make the most of the dream."

"Now you're talking," said Alice and rolled over on top of him.

Andrew wriggled his toes enthusiastically.
